You’re not f*cking crazy.

Life’s really hard.

*BTW, being crazy is ok, too.

Online therapy in New York and New Jersey

You’re on track, moving forward. But is this the right train?

Everything looks like it’s going well from the outside. But something feels off.

Whether you have a life in New York people envy, a job that makes good party conversation, or a future people tell you to be excited about, there’s hesitation.

The loving support of others surrounds you – numerous accomplishments under your belt, your future ahead of you.

But something is still not working.

You feel nervous about the future, overwhelmed by the pressure of expectations, fearful of making mistakes, and questing what it is you really want.

It’s hard to feel happy when our minds won’t stop worrying about the future or dwelling on the past.

During the day, Candace* manages her thoughts by working and staying busy.

When she’s not working, her evenings are packed with exercise and happy hours. She must always be busy and despises wasting time.

But as she lays in bed, in the quiet night, finally time for rest, her thoughts start.

Waves of emotions and reflections on the past.

“Did I make the right decision? Did I say the right thing? What if I had done this differently? Why am I thinking about this now? Why can’t I stop thinking about this?”

Frustration turns into helplessness – the same thoughts for yet another night.

When will they finally stop?

Jennifer* struggles with “The Never Enough Syndrome.”

With a combination of excessively high personal standards and overly critical self-evaluations, she feels the need to be perfect all the time – and scrolling through social media always makes it worse.

Balance and boundaries are nonexistent.

To push herself to be better at her job, she reviews her interactions and conversations, looking for flaws and errors.

She dreads meeting new people. She struggles with knowing what to say and worries about what they are thinking about her.

“Was that supposed to be funny? Was I NOT supposed to laugh? Can I leave yet?”

This also makes dating hard, so she avoids it.

“How will I ever meet anyone? Why is it so easy for everyone else?”

Tom* has been very successful at work…

… rising in the ranks of the company and making some major deals.

Known for long work hours, immediate responses to emails and texts, and success at work, people think he’s simply superman.

But Tom’s unable to say no to others. He feels he needs to live up to his reputation and feels that he can’t let them down.

At home, he finds himself waking in the night with racing thoughts.

He uses drinking and smoking weed to calm his underlying irritability and frustration. Sometimes, it helps, but both interfere with his sleep, leaving him feeling tired the next day. So he drinks coffee all day to bring himself back up.

The constant rushing and stress lead to frequent tension headaches and stomach pains.

“How long can I keep up with this cycle?”

What the f*ck is wrong with me?

It’s not just you.

As a therapist who works with young adults, I have noticed a pattern of suppressing emotions, hating uncertainty, fearing making mistakes, perfectionism, people-pleasing behavior, and self-criticism that’s tormenting our generation.

These tendencies are leading to exhaustion, anxiety, depression, self-sabotage, and burnout.

Sound relatable?

Hi, I’m Caity Thompson.

As a Licensed Psychotherapist in New York, I love working with young adults looking to adult smarter, not harder.

I am not your regular therapist. We are not going to spend months and months talking about your childhood, with me telling you it was the spelling bee in 2nd grade that damaged you and broke your ego.

I will not tell you who you are or how to be. I meet all my clients where they are, accept them for who they are, and strive to help them define and gain the skills needed to make changes and move toward where they want to be personally, professionally, and emotionally.

If you’re looking for a relatable, knowledgeable, and down-to-earth therapist who will be your girl on the journey toward the best version of yourself, you’re in the right place.
