Online Therapy

Practice self-care (and still make the evening happy hour)…

As we’re all aware, living in New York means coping with a fast pace, limited space, exorbitant costs, and other factors that don’t exactly make for a calm and balanced lifestyle.

The New York lifestyle is all about living in overdrive. You’re overextended, overworked, overspending, and overdoing… which rarely leads to prioritizing self-care.

Online therapy is the perfect option for us busy New Yorkers who still want to grow as a person and live a happier, healthier life.

Finally, you can say “No, thank you.” to…

… skipping lunch or taking time off work to get on the subway, walk to an office, sit in a waiting room, have a session, walk back out to the street, and battle your way back to work.

Not only is online therapy as effective as traditional, in-person treatment… it offers you lots of other advantages!

  • It’s accessible from wherever you are…
  • Scheduling is flexible…
  • You don’t have to waste time waiting and commuting…

Tips for making online sessions as effective as face-to-face sessions…

First, make sure you have a device with a camera, such as a laptop, phone, or tablet.

Second, you’ll need reliable Wi-Fi, data, or signal. This is A MUST because, without it, the flow of the session will be interrupted.

Third, give yourself 5-10 minutes before the session starts to get mentally settled. This will help you gather your thoughts and be ready to make the most of your time.

Fourth, find a good spot to sit for online sessions. Here are some popular places for online sessions:

  • Your bedroom… with the door closed (and a “Do Not Disturb” sign up if needed)
  • Your car… parked somewhere near reliable Internet or a good spot for data use
  • Your bathroom… as long as it’s quiet and private (Yes, this happens!)
  • The park… use that nice blanket and tuck into a quiet corner
  • Your home office… which is super convenient if you can’t take a break while working

Fifth, be flexible. Sometimes technology sucks, so we might have to endure some dropped calls, frozen screens, or video delays (all of which are rare… I swear). Plus, I’ll have Plan A, B, and C ready to ensure that the session continues despite interruptions.

Finally, be adaptive. If you hoped to sit in your bedroom for sessions but the connection is slow, take the week in between sessions to find a better place.

Oh, and “teamwork makes the dream work.” Ask your parents, roommates, partner, or whomever you live with for support in making sure you can have an hour for yourself each week.

I personally do online therapy!

I live in Brooklyn, and my therapist is in the Upper East Side. I wanted to work with someone who met my needs… someone I clicked with… someone who provided the type of therapy that I knew would work best for me.

It happened that the therapist of my dreams is two trains and a 55-minute commute away. But because of online therapy, that distance is not even a problem. We meet weekly, and I work on myself while getting all the support I need from someone who understands… even though it’s a long-distance relationship.

Here’s how to get started…

We will start with a free 20-minute phone consultation to discuss what brings you to therapy, talk about what you hope to accomplish, and make sure we are a good match.

Then, we will move forward with scheduling. I’ll send some documents for you to fill out and sign electronically via a secure portal called “Simple Practice.” You can complete them before the session, or we can discuss them in our first meeting.

Next, we will select what type of online portal you prefer (most of my clients prefer Zoom or FaceTime).

It’s as easy as that!

If you want to take advantage of all these benefits, let’s schedule that free consultation. Call me at (845) 418-3239 or email me at [email protected].
